The eighth house represents age as well as death at the same time. It means if the eighth house is influenced by benefic and suitable planets and the first house is strong; the native may live long. On the other hand, if the eighth house is influenced by malefic or unsuitable planets and the first house is weak or afflicted; the native may die young. For how long a native may live or how soon he may die; depends on the type and strength of planetary influences on the eighth as well as the first house; and on the overall horoscope of the native in question.
Though the eighth house represents a number of difficult or very difficult to handle characteristics; it also represents interesting and beneficial characteristics. The eighth house may bless you with growth and success in spheres like astrology, tantra, psychic field, spiritualism, medical field, science, defence services and a number of other fields.
The eighth house is capable of producing malefic as well as benefic results. This house may bring death to you but at the same time; it may help you cross the barrier of death and rebirth. It means specific influence of the eighth house may put you on the path to liberation and it may also help you a lot when it comes to move on that path. The final destination however, is achieved through the twelfth house. Hence the eighth house may initiate the journey of liberation and the twelfth house may mark the completion of this journey. This way, the eight and twelfth house work in combination with each other, when it comes to the path of spiritualism and liberation.
The eighth house may trouble you with terrible and terminal diseases but at the same time; it can make you a doctor who treats such diseases. This house can make you a criminal or terrorist; or the one who suffers due to criminals or terrorists. However, this house can also make you a police officer or an army officer who fights criminals and terrorists. The eighth house represents psychic perception. Hence it holds the capacity to trouble you with various types of psychological disorders, fears, insecurities, phobias and other likewise concepts. However, the same house can also make you a psychiatrist, consultant, healer or other likewise professional who helps other people get out of such problems.
The eighth house can trouble you through mysteries, events beyond the comprehension of intellect, black magic; the occult, the paranormal and other likewise phenomena. However, the eighth house can also help you become an astrologer, tantric, spiritual guru, psychic, investigator or some other likewise professional who deals in these characteristics and benefits from them.
Though the eighth house can render good as well as bad results; it is generally called a malefic house. This is due to the reason that the energy of this house is difficult to handle and most people may not be able to channelize it properly. As a result, such energy may do what it wishes and it may end up creating various types of problems. This is why it is called a malefic house and its lord is considered malefic in horoscope. In reality, it is not a malefic house but it is a difficult to handle house. This house as well as its lord is fully capable of behaving positively; when supported by the overall horoscope. This concept has been explained in the chapter ‘Vipreet Rajyoga’ in the revised edition (2020) of the book ‘Important Yogas in Vedic Astrology’.
Since the eighth house is a difficult to handle house, the formation of a defect like Manglik Dosh in this house may create problems which may be higher in quantum than the ones created by Manglik Dosh formed in many other houses of horoscope.
When it comes to create the most serious type of problems, directly related to marriage; Manglik Dosh formed in the seventh house may prove to be the most troublesome one. Manglik Dosh formed in the eighth house may not be as troublesome for marriage as that formed in the seventh house, in most cases. However, it may negatively affect the lifespan of the native having such Manglik Dosh in his horoscope. In this sense, Manglik Dosh in the eighth house may prove to be the most troublesome type of Manglik Dosh, among all types.
It is often quoted that strong Manglik Dosh in a horoscope may cause death of spouse. However, it may not be so in case of all types of Manglik Dosh. This defect may form by virtue of placement of Mars in six specific houses of horoscope. Among these houses, the formation of Manglik Dosh in the seventh house has the highest ratio of causing death of husband or wife. Though Manglik Dosh formed in the first, fourth or twelfth house may also create this effect; the numbers are simply not comparable.
To have an idea, if 100 natives lose partners because of Manglik Dosh alone; without the intervention of any other planet; 70 to 80 of these natives may have Manglik Dosh in the seventh house. That leaves only 20 to 30 natives for the remaining five houses; which is not a big number. Hence when it comes to the death of partner; Manglik Dosh in the seventh house may be the most troublesome one.
On the other hand, when it comes to cause the death of the native himself or herself; Manglik Dosh formed in the eighth house has the highest ratio. To have an idea, if 100 natives die because of Manglik Dosh alone; without the intervention of any other planet; 50 to 60 of these natives may have Manglik Dosh in the eighth house. Among the remaining 40 or 50, say 50 natives; 25 to 30 natives may have Manglik Dosh in the first house, 10 to 15 natives may have Manglik Dosh in the twelfth house and the rest is distributed among other houses.
Therefore, if a defect like Bhakoot Dosh or Nadi Dosh indicates the death of one partner; the first thing to check is if Manglik Dosh is formed in any one of the horoscopes. If it is formed in the seventh house in one of the horoscopes; the other partner may face threat to life. If it is formed in the eighth house in one of the horoscopes; the native having such Manglik Dosh may die. If Manglik Dosh is formed in the seventh house in one horoscope and it is formed in the eighth house in the other horoscope; the one with Manglik Dosh in the eighth house is highly likely to face life threat; if such marriage is conducted.
Looking at another variation, if Manglik Dosh is formed in the seventh house in both horoscopes under consideration for horoscope matching; the lives of both partners may face threat if they get married. Likewise, if Manglik Dosh is formed in the eighth house in both horoscopes; the lives of both partners may face threat. In both these cases; the couple may die together in an accident, they may get murdered or they may die in another way.
It is at times believed that a Manglik (one who has Manglik Dosh) should be married to another Manglik. This practice may bring very bad results in reality; and in cases like the ones under consideration, such marriage may produce disastrous results. A Manglik should never be married to another Manglik; unless both the horoscopes have planetary factors which reduce the strength of this defect, to significant or great extent. Among such matches also; the marriage of the natives with seventh-seventh, eighth-eighth or seventh-eight type of Manglik Dosh may prove disastrous; as such marriage may results in the death of one or both the partners. Hence one such marriage should not be conducted at all; unless both the horoscopes have planetary factors which reduce the strength of this defect, to great extent.
The term ‘seventh-seventh’ means that both natives have Manglik Dosh in the seventh house. Likewise, the term ‘eighth-eighth’ means that both natives have Manglik Dosh in the eighth house. The term ‘seventh-eighth’ means that one native has Manglik Dosh in the seventh house whereas the other native has Manglik Dosh in the eighth house. The third type of combination may cause death of one partner only; the one with Manglik Dosh in the eighth house. However, the first two types of combinations may cause death of both partners.
If one or both natives have Manglik Dosh but none of them has this defect in the seventh or eighth house; the marriage may prove troublesome or it may break. However, none of the partners may face death threat due to such marriage, in most cases. Let’s move on to Manglik Dosh formed in the eighth house of horoscope.
Once the formation of Manglik Dosh is confirmed, the next thing to check is its strength. The strength of Manglik Dosh is checked through the placement of Mars in various signs, nakshatras and navamshas. Apart from that, the influences of benefic and malefic planets on Mars; the overall theme of the horoscope and the running times may also affect the strength of Manglik Dosh. Let’s look into these factors.
Let’s start with signs and let’s look at the general trends. Manglik Dosh formed in various houses may possess minimum strength when Mars is placed in Cancer since Mars is debilitated in this sign. This defect may be significant or strong but not very strong when Mars is placed in Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Aquarius or Pisces. Manglik Dosh may become strong or very strong when Mars is placed in Aries, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius or Capricorn.
Let’s take an example for Manglik Dosh in the eighth house; to understand this concept in a better manner. Suppose malefic Mars forms Manglik Dosh in the eighth house of horoscope in Scorpio. Aries rises in the ascendant and Mars represents the first and eighth house. Mars is strong in Scorpio.
Through its general as well as specific significances; Mars represents courage, bravery, initiative, immunity, reforms, aggression, stubbornness, impulsiveness, anger, hot-headedness, physical body, strength, vitality, immunity, overall health, lifespan, personality, independence, profession, age, death, obstacles, accidents, losses, destruction, diseases, surgeries, crime, calamities, revolutions, murders, the occult, paranormal, supernatural, psychic perception, spiritual growth, secrets, mysteries, hidden operations, investigations and many other things.
Manglik Dosh formed in the eighth house affects marriage in ways which may be different than those of Manglik Dosh formed in the other five houses of horoscope. Manglik Dosh formed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th or 12th house may directly hit the sphere of marriage. It means such Manglik Dosh may directly create negativity in marriage and it may also affect the wellbeing of the spouse.
However, Manglik Dosh formed in the eighth house may take indirect approach, in many cases. It means that the native may himself face a number of problems; including problems related to physical, mental or emotional health; and the other partner as well as marriage may be troubled because of these problems.
Drawing a comparison; Manglik Dosh formed in the seventh house may get the native married to someone who may prove his or her enemy in the guise of spouse. Hence the couple may have direct negative interactions with one another. In this case; the native with Manglik Dosh in the seventh house may suffer because of the partner. Hence such Manglik Dosh may trouble the native through the partner, though the partner may also suffer through the native.
However, when Manglik Dosh is formed in the eighth house; the partner (say wife) may not be the root cause of native’s problems; or the wife may not be the cause at all, in many cases. The native may suffer because of his own problems and such problems may affect his wife also. Hence in this case; it is the native who may prove troublesome for his wife; though he may not do so intentionally. It means the native may be so much troubled by his own problems that he may often take his anger or frustration out on his wife.
When Manglik Dosh is formed in the seventh house, the native may get married to a woman who may intentionally try to trouble him or hurt him; primarily because of serious conflicts between the two of them. It means that in this case, the wife may see the native as her enemy and the native may see the wife as his enemy. Whenever the wife troubles this native; she may think that he duly deserves such troubles due to his conducts and behaviour patterns. Hence when the wife of this native troubles him; such practice may be intentional.
However, when Manglik Dosh is formed in the eighth house; the equation may reverse in both the senses, in many cases. The first sense means that instead of native’s wife causing troubles for him; the native may cause troubles for her. The second sense means that instead of such troubles being intentional; they may be unintentional. The wife may not do much to deserve such troubles and even the native may know this fact. However, he may simply get out of control and he may take significant amount of negativity built inside him; out on his wife. It is easy to understand that such outbursts may often be followed by feelings of regret. The native may know he’s done wrong to his wife and he may regret later.
It means if you have Manglik Dosh in the seventh house; your partner is likely to trouble you out of animosity and anger; specifically targeted at you. However, if you have Manglik Dosh in the eighth house; you are likely to trouble your partner more than he or she may trouble you; and you’re likely to do so without much hatred or enmity for her, in many cases. You may have so many battles going inside you and she being the closest person; may often get caught in the crossfire.
Moving on, let’s see how the placement of Mars in various nakshatras within the sign of Scorpio may affect the outcomes of Manglik Dosh in the eighth house. The sign of Scorpio features 3 nakshatras; Vishakha, Anuradha and Jyeshtha.
When Mars is placed in Vishakha, the problems may be serious or very serious. Vishakha has only one navamsha in the sign of Scorpio and this navamsha falls in Cancer. Since Mars is debilitated in Cancer; it may not create destructive type of problems. However, such Manglik Dosh is still capable of creating serious or very serious type of problems. This is because Mars is strong in Scorpio and the eighth house is a difficult to handle house. Hence even the least strong type of Manglik Dosh formed in this house, within the sign of Scorpio may create serious or very serious problems. This type of Manglik Dosh may not delay the marriage of the native but it may disturb the marriage.
If Mars is placed in Anuradha, the problems may be serious or very serious. Such Manglik Dosh may create problems between the native and his in-laws and such problems may have negative effect on the marriage of the native. Apart from that; such Manglik Dosh may prove troublesome for native’s health and lifespan.
If Mars is placed in Jyeshtha, the problems may be serious, very serious or destructive. This type of Manglik Dosh may create problems between the native and his in-laws; as well as between the native and his wife. Hence this type of Manglik Dosh may prove more troublesome for marriage; than Manglik Dosh formed in Vishakha or Anuradha nakshatra. Apart from that, such Manglik Dosh may prove troublesome for native’s health and lifespan.
Drawing a comparison; if Mars is placed in Anuradha; the native may have bad equation with his in-laws. However, he may not fight with his wife under the context of problems between him and her family members. On the contrary, the wife of the native may often confront him regarding such problems. It means his wife may often pressurize him to mend his relationships with her family members. The native may not do so and this may become a significant cause of problems between the couple; apart from native’s own problems.
However, if Mars is placed in Jyeshtha, the equation may change. The native may have bad equation with his in-laws and he may take his anger for them; out on his wife. In the first case, the native may suffer because of his bad equation with in-laws; both through the in-laws as well as his wife. However, in the second case, the native may suffer through in-laws and he may also make them suffer. At the same time, the native may trouble his wife on account of behavior of her family members towards him. This type of Manglik Dosh may create strong hatred between the native and his in-laws and such hatred may play an important role in breaking the marriage or marriages of the native.
Looking at navamshas, the sign of Scorpio features 9 navamshas. The first navamsha Cancer is ruled by Vishakha. The next four navamshas from Leo to Scorpio are ruled by Anuradha. The last four navamshas from Sagittarius to Pisces are ruled by Jyeshtha.
When Mars is placed in Cancer navamsha; Manglik Dosh with least strength may be formed. When Mars is placed in Virgo, Libra, Aquarius or Pisces; such Manglik Dosh may create serious or very serious problems. When Mars is placed in Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius or Capricorn navamsha; the problems may be very serious or destructive.
Among these four navamshas; the placement of Mars in Sagittarius or Capricorn navamshas may prove the most troublesome for marriage. Among all 9 types of Manglik Dosh formed by Mars in the eighth house in Scorpio; these two may be directly targeted at breaking the marriage of the native. The remaining 7 types of this defect may create problems but such problems may not be directly targeted at breaking the marriage.
It means that the placement of Mars in any one of these two navamshas may form exception to the general trend exhibited by Manglik Dosh in the eighth house. According to this trend; the native should not have much direct enmity for his wife and he may often take out his own anger and frustration on his wife. However in these two cases; the native may develop direct enmity for his wife; though the root cause of such enmity may be traced back to the bad equation of the native with his in-laws, in many of these cases.
Moving on, the influences of benefic and malefic planets on Mars in a horoscope. When malefic Mars forms Manglik Dosh in the eighth house of a horoscope in Scorpio; there may be no benefic planet which may reduce the strength of such Manglik Dosh by virtue of its placement with Mars in the eighth house; without causing side effects or other types of problems.
Hence the solution in this case should come through other houses of horoscope and not through the eighth house. When an afflicted house is out of options for featuring benefic planets in it; the next best choice is the house opposite to it; which is the second house in this case. The planets placed in the second house cast direct aspect on the planets in the eighth house. Hence benefic planets in the second house may reduce the strength of Manglik Dosh through aspects; without having to deal with the hostile environment of the eighth house.
When Mars forms Manglik Dosh in the eighth house, the biggest threat is posed to health and lifespan of the native. It means that in addition to reducing the strength of such Manglik Dosh, the first house needs to be strengthened so that health and lifespan of the native may be protected; especially lifespan. Suppose benefic Saturn is placed in the second house of this horoscope in Taurus.
Saturn is strong in Taurus and it casts direct aspect on Mars from the second house. Hence it may reduce the strength of Manglik Dosh to a significant extent. Accordingly the native may witness relief in problems related to health, lifespan and marriage. Suppose benefic exalted Moon is also placed with Saturn in the second house. In this case, the benefic combination in the second house may become very strong. Hence it may further reduce the strength of Manglik Dosh, thereby reducing its malefic impact on various spheres of life.
It should be noted that planets placed in seventh house with respect to each other may not influence each other with same strength; compared to when they are placed in the same house. However, the impact is still strong. This is why planetary conjunctions are the strongest ones; followed by mutual aspects of planets placed in seventh house with respect to each other. Hence the reduction in Manglik Dosh may not be as strong as it may be if benefic planets are placed in conjunction with Mars; like we have seen in case of Manglik Dosh formed in other houses of horoscope. However, such reduction may still be significant.
Suppose benefic Venus is placed in the first house in Aries. Venus adds strength to the first house and through the first house, it adds strength to the entire horoscope. Suppose benefic Sun is placed in the eleventh house in Aquarius, Mercury is placed in the tenth house in Capricorn, benefic Rahu is placed in the ninth house in Sagittarius, Ketu is placed in the third house in Gemini and Jupiter is placed in the fifth house in Leo.
In this case, the overall horoscope may become benefic or highly benefic; depending on the finer factors.
Let’s see what may happen when malefic planets influence Manglik Dosh in a horoscope. Suppose malefic Mars forms Manglik Dosh in the eighth house of a horoscope in Scorpio and Jupiter is also placed in the same house.
Mars is stronger than Jupiter in Scorpio and the eighth house features hostile environment. Due to the combined effect of Mars and the eighth house, Jupiter may also turn significantly malefic. At the same time; Jupiter may add more negativity to Mars. Hence the problems posed by such Manglik Dosh may increase in number as well as in quantum. The spheres of health and lifespan may be hit most severely; followed by the sphere of marriage in case of female natives.
A female native having such malefic combination may witness delay in marriage. Hence she may get married late or very late. Apart from that, such malefic combination may break one, two or three marriages of the native; by virtue of horrible and traumatising experiences. In this case, such malefic combination may prove almost as troublesome for health and lifespan of the husband; as for those of the native. Much depends on wellbeing of Venus and the seventh house in the horoscope. If Venus is strong as well as clean; and the seventh house is either occupied by benefic planets or it is vacant; the native may witness relief.
Taking an example, suppose benefic Venus is placed in the seventh house of this horoscope in Libra and benefic Moon is placed in the first house in Aries. In this case, the native may witness much relief in problems related to marriage. At the same time; the influences of these benefic planets may significantly reduce the threat posed to health and lifespan of native’s husband. Hence the native may witness one broken marriage and she may settle in the second marriage; unless other malefic planets in the horoscope counteract this fact.
On the other hand, if Venus is also weak or afflicted; the number as well as quantum of such problems may increase a lot. Suppose Venus and malefic Mercury are also placed in the eighth house in Scorpio, along with Mars and Jupiter. The negativity may increase a lot in the eighth house as well as in the overall horoscope. Due to afflictions by malefic planets and due to the hostile environment of the eighth house; Mars, Jupiter and Mercury may turn highly malefic in this case. When it comes to Venus; it may turn significantly malefic; though it is generally benefic for Aries ascendant type horoscopes.
The malefic planets in the eighth house may afflict one another; apart from afflicting the eighth house. Hence the general as well as specific significances of all these planets may suffer. Mars rules the first and eighth house, Jupiter rules the ninth and twelfth house, Venus rules the second and seventh house and Mercury rules the third and sixth house in this horoscope. It means that 4 planets and 8 houses are troubled through this malefic combination.
It is easy to understand that the overall horoscope may turn highly malefic and the native may face serious problems; in most spheres of life. The sphere of marriage may be completely destroyed, whether the native is male or female. Very likely, the native may not get married throughout his or her life; due to the malefic effect of this combination. In case some other planets are able to get the native married; he or she may lose the spouse to death; in a short period of time. Such malefic combination may get both the native and his or her spouse killed in an accident.
Let’s see how such horoscope may witness some relief. Suppose benefic Sun is placed in the ninth house in Sagittarius in Leo navamsha of Poorvashada nakshatra, benefic Saturn is placed in the second house in Taurus, benefic Rahu is placed in the fifth house in Leo, malefic Ketu is placed in the eleventh house in Aquarius and benefic Moon is placed in the first house in Aries.
The overall horoscope may become much better, though it may still be bent more towards negativity. The native may witness relief related to health and lifespan as well as profession and finances. However, he may not witness much relief in the sphere of marriage. How soon and how much damage may be done by such malefic combination, is dependent on the running times; which are dependent on the placement of Moon within Aries.
Within the sign of Aries, suppose Moon is placed in Leo navamsha ruled by Bharani nakshatra. In this case, the native is born under Venus period, with about 19 years of this period left. Venus period is followed by periods of Sun for 6 years, Moon for 10 years, Mars for 7 years and Rahu for 18 years. Since Venus is the least malefic among all four planets in the eighth house; the native may survive Venus period; though with a number of problems.
After that, Sun and Moon rule the planetary periods for 16 years. It means the native may be under the influence of these period during his age of 19 and 35. Since both these planets are benefic in the horoscope; the number and quantum of problems posed by the malefic combination in the eighth house may reduce a lot. Hence the native may get married; likely during Moon period and he may be able to hold on to his first or second marriage; till the end of Moon period.
After that, the 7 year Mars period begins. Since Mars forms Manglik Dosh in the eighth house and it is the strongest planet in Scorpio; among all four planets; the native may suffer from very serious or destructive type of problems related to his marriage as well as those related to his health and lifespan. The sphere of marriage may be hit more severely since health and lifespan are being protected by Moon and Sun. It should be noted that Sun and Mars are general signifiers for health; though not for lifespan. These two planets contribute the most towards building and maintaining immunity; among all planets. Since Sun is strong in Sagittarius; this placement may help with immunity.
As the planetary period of Mars begins, it may break the marriage of the native within the first couple of years; likely within the very first year. Looking at some probable reasons; the wife (or husband) of this native may die in an accident during this period; or she may get killed in an unfortunate incident or through a planned attack. Unfortunate incident means that she may die in a terrorist attack, a bomb blast, a crossfire between two rival parties; or another similar situation where she may not be the primary target but she may become collateral damage.
Depending on the finer factors; the native may also kill his wife during Mars period; on account of various reasons. The native may have an extramarital affair and he may kill his wife in order to get rid of her. Looking at another variation, native’s wife may have an extramarital affair, the native may come to know about it and he may kill his wife. In such case, the native may also kill the lover of his wife. He may get caught and he may serve prison sentence for more than 7 years or he may receive death penalty; depending on the finer factors. Looking at another option, the native may come to know about his wife’s extramarital affair. He may kill his wife first; and he may then kill himself. Apart from these, the native may face a number of other problems during this period.
Let’s see what may happen when the placement of Moon changes in the horoscope; and the rest of the horoscope remains the same. Suppose benefic Moon is placed in the seventh house of this horoscope in the first quarter of Swati nakshatra in Libra. In this case, the planetary periods of Rahu and Jupiter may rule this native from the time of his birth till his age of 33 or 34.
Rahu is benefic in the horoscope and benefic Moon promotes marriage as well as health and lifespan of husband or wife. Hence the native may get married during Jupiter period and he may die within the same period. In this case, the wife (or husband) of the native may kill the native on account of various reasons; though the primary reason may be her involvement in an extramarital affair. The lover of native’s wife (or husband) may also support her in killing the native. Apart from that, the native may die during this period; in an accident, in an unfortunate incident or due to a fatal disease. In case the native dies due to a disease; he may die because of some type of cancer; especially brain cancer or blood cancer.
