Manglik Dosh

Manglik Dosh: What is It and How Does It Form?

Mars, or Mangal, is a fiery planet loaded with energy. Mars is the planet of energy, and marriage is a sensitive relationship. The extra energy on Mars may not be good for it, and it can break the marriage or cause the death of a partner. When functionally beneficial, its energy can be used for various constructive purposes. But when functionally malefic in a horoscope, the energy of Mars can become destructive. Malefic Mars can cause multiple problems for the natives related to marriage. This is when Mars is said to form Manglik Dosh in a horoscope.

Placement of Mars in the Formation of Manglik Dosh

Manglik Dosh is one of the most feared defects in Vedic astrology. Most people reject marriage alliances due to the person being presumed to have Manglik Dosh. According to its prevalent definition, Manglik Dosh is formed if Mars is placed in the 1st, 4th, 2nd, 8th, 7th, or 12th house of the horoscope. This Dosha is associated with delays in marriage, disputes, troubled marriages, widowhood, divorces, and other disturbing events.

The term ‘Dosha’ is a defect associated with a malefic planet. One of the elementary rules of Vedic astrology states that benefic planets form good yogas and malefic planets form bad yogas. But no planet can be malefic merely by its placement in a specific house. This is because each and every planet in the Navgraha is capable of producing both malefic and benefic results in each house of the horoscope. Therefore, even benefic Mars placed in these six houses can form Manglik Dosha.

What is the Probability of Such Events Occurring?

Since a horoscope has 12 houses, the probability of each planet being placed in one of these houses is 1 in 12. Manglik Dosh is said to be formed when Mars is placed in any one of the mentioned 6 out of 12 houses. Thus, the probability of the presence of Manglik Dosha in a horoscope is 1 in 2. Hence, 50% of people worldwide have this Dosha in their horoscope, according to the prevalent definition. However, in real practice, only about 10 to 20% of people are found having this defect.

Are There Any Remedies?

One of the most often suggested remedies for Manglik Dosha is that a Manglik should get married to another Manglik. If both natives have Manglik Dosh in their horoscopes, they will balance each other out. This concept is called multiplication. However, this should not be followed because two negatives don’t make a positive.

An aggressive or violent native is better matched with a tolerant and wise native. Two argumentative, aggressive, or violent natives put together in a marriage may end up causing disasters in most cases. Hence, this belief of marrying a Manglik to another Manglik is not a wise one.

The Bottom Line

You should know that many factors affect the results of Manglik Dosh, like the field of impact, time of activation, its strength, benefic and malefic planets, and the effect of Mahadashas. Hence, it is suggested that you seek help and advice from an experienced astrologer to know more about this Dosha and determine whether it is present in your horoscope.
