The third house of horoscope represents brothers, sisters, courage, communication, neighbours, profession, efforts, colleagues and teammates among other things. Though profession is primarily represented by the tenth house; the first house, the third house and the eleventh house also represent it. Though all these houses represent profession, they do so differently, in their own unique ways. The tenth house represents the profession which is required as a general and basic need to obtain sufficient money, recognition and authority.
It means when you engage in profession under strong influence of the tenth house, you may engage in professions which may provide you with sufficient amount of money as well as with sufficient amount of recognition and authority. The focus here is on achieving these goals. Hence you may or may not like the profession you’re engaging in. At times, you may even dislike the profession you’re engaging in but you may still engage because it may give you the basic things mentioned earlier.
When you engage in profession under the strong influence of eleventh house, it is primarily because of the need for earning more and more money. The secondary need here is to connect with more and more people through your profession. Though the liking part is more than the tenth house in case of the eleventh house, it may still not be high. It means that through the eleventh house; you may engage in professions which you may not really like and you are in them for money and networking only. You may not dislike these professions but you may simply not like them much. This house focuses on money as well as networking and the need to do what you really want to do may not be strong here.
When it comes to the third house, the need to engage in profession rises due to your own interests, more than anything else. The focus here is on doing what you really want to do and the aspects like money, recognition, networking and authority go in the background. It doesn’t mean that you may not earn money, recognition and authority if you engage in profession under strong influence of the third house. It simply means you may engage in it primarily because of your wish to engage in it. When you do that, you may also earn good or very good amount of money, recognition, authority and expansion among other things. However, these things may come as by-products and they may not be the primary products. Hence you may choose to engage in a profession that you like and the rest may follow.
The first house is above all these houses and it has a league of his own. When you engage in a profession under the strong influence of the first house, your profession may become your expression as well as your way of living. Though the third house also tends to make you engage in professions which you like; such liking is weaker compared to the first house. The first house represents a liking so strong that it becomes natural.
When it comes to a tendency or characteristic; there are various stages. During the first stage, you may not even know it exists. During the second stage, you may know it exists but you may not put it primary. Hence it is a tendency here. During the third stage, you may recognize it and you may assign importance to it. The tendency becomes stronger here. During the fourth stage, you may assign great importance to it and you may put it before anything which may try to reduce or supress it. The tendency becomes even stronger in this case. During the fifth and the final stage, even the effort is gone and such tendency becomes a natural part of you. This is when we may call it a characteristic or a talent.
During the third and fourth stage, you are trying to put conscious effort to promote such tendency. Though you need less effort during the fourth stage compared to the effort needed during the third stage; you still need effort. The moment you don’t need effort to promote such tendency and it becomes capable of sustaining itself without conscious effort; such tendency turns into a characteristic. In case it is a skill, such skill turns into talent. At this stage, you may not have much choice whether to exhibit such characteristic or not; and you may end up exhibiting it naturally.
Let’s take an example to understand this concept in a better manner. Let’s consider the tendency to engage in good karmas. During the first stage of evolution, you may not even know they exist. This means you may not even know that there are good karmas and bad karmas. Hence you may do what you like, without awareness, like a child. During the second stage, you may become aware of the difference between good and bad karmas; but you may choose to engage in bad karmas a number of times. It means you may try to supress the tendency to engage in good karmas if you find that you may benefit more by engaging in bad karmas.
With time and due to other factors; the level of your awareness may increase. Hence you may reach the third stage. During this stage, you may put conscious efforts to engage in good karmas and you may consciously avoid engaging in bad karmas. The battle here is difficult since you have been engaging in bad karmas for a long period of time. Hence they may lure you with a number of tempting rewards. Much effort is required to get through this stage.
With time and through such effort; you may reach the fourth stage. During this stage, you may not need much effort to engage in good karmas and you may also not need much effort to stay away from bad karmas. However, you still need effort. This is because the distinction between good and bad karmas is still present and strong during this stage. It means that though you may engage in good karmas in more than 90% of the cases; you always know you have a choice to engage in bad karmas also. Hence your focus is divided here. A bigger part of you is focused on engaging in good karmas and a smaller part of you is focused on avoiding bad karmas.
With time, you may finally reach the fifth stage. The fifth stage is effortless and you can’t reach there with effort. This is why I mentioned ‘with time’ and not ‘with effort’. The distinction between good and bad karmas is gone here; just like the first stage. Good karmas have now become a part of you and you simply can’t engage in bad karmas. The only way you see is that of good karmas. Hence the distinction is gone here. You have undivided focus on good karmas and no part of you is looking at bad karmas. This stage is the final one and you have become a natural now. It means you have become good karmas and good karmas have become you.
Let’s consider a simple example and let’s consider a skill and a talent. Let it be the skill and talent to dance. During the first stage, you may not be aware if such talent exists. During the second stage, you may know it exists and you may even wish to develop dancing skills; but you may often choose not to. During the third stage, you may put conscious effort on learning dancing skills and you may start becoming a better and better dancer. During the fourth stage, you may require less effort and you may become a very good dancer. However even during this stage; you perform with effort and you’re not effortless.
The term ‘effortless’ is very important in this context. Being effortless doesn’t mean that you don’t make any mistakes. Being effortless means you’re not focused on mistakes or perfection and all you want to do is dance. Hence you may commit mistakes when you’re effortless but you may simply not care. During the fourth stage; you are consciously aware of not making mistakes. It means the focus here is on achieving perfection, by consciously avoiding mistakes. This further means that even during this stage; you’re well aware that there is a thing called perfect dance and then there are mistakes.
With time, you reach the fifth stage. The skill now turns into a talent. During this stage, all you care for is dance. Whether there is perfection or mistakes; you may simply not care about them. The beauty of this stage is that you may not make any mistakes at all. This is because you have undivided focus on dancing and enjoying. This leaves no scope for focusing on mistakes. It means you now dance subconsciously and the conscious effort is gone. The moment you start doing something subconsciously, you become natural at that thing.
Let’s go back to the professional aspect represented by various houses. The tenth house deals with the primary need to engage in profession. Whether you like such profession or not may not be a concern here. In this sense; this house represents the first and second stage; depending on the evolutionary status of a native in question. The same goes for the eleventh house as it is interested in the money part of profession and it may not be interested in what you really want to do.
For this reason, malefic influences on the eleventh house or its lord may produce more criminals compared to the ones produced by the tenth house under similar circumstances. This is because the eleventh house is already focused on financial gains even when it is working positively in a horoscope. Hence it becomes easy for malefic planets to exploit the energy of this house, since money or financial gains are in the root of most crimes.
When it comes to the third house, it represents the third and fourth stage; depending on the evolutionary status of a native in question. Hence the focus here is on engaging in professions that you really want to engage in as well as on avoiding professions that you don’t like. Therefore, a native under strong influence of the third house may refuse to engage in certain professions even when they may promise very good results; simply because he may not like them or he may want to do something else. Hence the third house connects you to professions which may be more meaningful to you. Whether such professions are profitable or not is decided by the overall horoscope.
The first house deals with the fourth and fifth stage; depending on the evolutionary status of a native in question. Let’s consider the fifth stage, in order to understand this concept in a better manner. In this case; you may simply have no choice when it comes to profession. You may be born to engage in a profession and you may simply do so. It is as simple as that and there is no other option. The easiest way to identify the professionals under the strong influence of the first house is that they love their professions. Whether they are working or not; they’re always engage in them.
A scientist engaging in research late in the night, a dancer practicing without the need to; and a singer singing even when he’s not performing or rehearsing may have chosen to engage in their respective professions under strong influence of the first house. When the first house makes you engage in a profession; such profession becomes your way of being and it may not merely remain a profession. It means you may not be able to engage in it only during working hours and you may be engaged in it; all the time. In the deepest sense, your way of being becomes your profession and not the other way round. It means you may love dance so much that you wish to engage in it most of the time. Hence you naturally choose to be a professional dancer since doing so gives you the luxury of practicing what you enjoy very much.
Coming back to the main topic; the third house also represents profession though in a different way. The formation of Pitra Dosh in the third house of horoscope can create problems related to the significances of this house as well as those related to the significances of Sun or the lord of the ninth house; depending on the type of Pitra Dosh formed in this house.
As we know, there are three categories of Pitra Dosh on the basis of its formation. The first one is formed due to affliction to Sun, the second one is formed due to affliction to the ninth house and the third one is formed due to affliction to the lord of the ninth house. Let’s discuss the first and third category of Pitra Dosh formed in the third house. Since Pitra Dosh due to affliction to the ninth house may not form in the third house; this category can’t be discussed here.
Let’s start with Pitra Dosh formed due to affliction to Sun. Suppose benefic Sun and malefic Ketu form Pitra Dosh in the third house of a horoscope in Sagittarius. Sun and Ketu are both strong in Sagittarius. Hence the overall strength of such Pitra Dosh depends on their nakshatra as well as navamsha placements. Sun rules the eleventh house in this horoscope. Therefore, through its general as well as specific significances; Sun represents courage, initiative, immunity, father, the ability to produce children in case of male natives, creativity, incomes, financial gains, friends and networks of people; among other things. When malefic in a horoscope, Ketu represents delays, losses, destruction, unfortunate events and diseases among other things. As a result, such Pitra Dosh may trouble the significances represented by Sun and the third house; through the characteristics represented by Ketu.
Therefore, the native suffering from such Pitra Dosh may face problems related to profession, siblings, friends, health, finances, father and children among other issues. Whichever of these spheres are protected by benefic planets in this horoscope; they may not suffer much. The spheres which are neither protected nor troubled may face significant damage. The spheres which are troubled by other malefic planets also; may face maximum damage due to such Pitra Dosh. Let’s look into some of these spheres and explore various options.
Since Sun is the lord of the eleventh house, the native may suffer on the financial front of profession. It means he may not be able to make significant money through job or through business; unless the rest of his horoscope is positive, strong and supportive for incomes through profession. Looking at some extreme cases of this type of Pitra Dosh; the native may remain jobless for many years of his life, he may become a criminal, he may face serious financial losses through business, he may not be able to begin his professional career till late in life or he may witness permanent discontinuation of profession; early in his life like between his age of 40 and 50 years. Looking at some other extreme options, the native may get seriously injured or he may even die while he may be doing his job.
Let’s look at nakshatra placements for Sun and Ketu. Within Sagittarius, if both Sun and Ketu are placed in Poorvashada nakshatra, such Pitra Dosh may cause significant but not serious problems. If both these planets are placed in Uttarashada nakshatra, the problems may again be significant but not serious. Sun rules Uttarashada but only one part of Uttarashada falls in Sagittarius and that too in Sagittarius navamsha. It means any planet placed in the Sagittarius part of Uttarashada nakshatra becomes Vargottama. When a planet occupies the same sign in the birth chart as well as navamsha chart; it becomes Vargotamma.
Sun is strong in Sagittarius but Ketu is stronger. It means when both Sun and Ketu are placed in Sagittarius navamsha of Uttarashada nakshatra; Ketu has an advantage on account of placement in sign as well as in navamsha. However, Sun gains extra strength here, since it rules Uttarashada. As a result; both Sun and Ketu may have comparable strengths in Sagittarius navamsha of Uttarashada nakshatra. Hence such Pitra Dosh may cause significant but not serious damage.
When both Sun and Ketu are placed in Moola nakshatra; such Pitra Dosh may become strong. Hence the native may face serious problems. Ketu is stronger than Sun in Sagittarius and it rules Moola nakshatra. Apart from this, Moola is a difficult to handle nakshatra and it promotes destruction. Hence such Pitra Dosh may gain maximum strength in this zone. It is this type of Pitra Dosh which may cause the death of the native on duty. Accordingly, the native may get killed or he may die in an accident; while performing his duty.
Looking at some probable events, the office building may collapse due to a natural phenomenon, a bomb blast or some other likewise reason; and the native may die. The workplace may catch fire and the native may die. Robbers may attack native’s workplace and the native may get killed during robbery. The native may be a fire fighter and he may die while trying to rescue some people trapped in a fire incident. The native may be a police officer and he may get killed in an encounter or in a terrorist attack. The native may be an army officer and he may get killed during war or in a terrorist attack.
When Sun and Ketu are placed in different nakshatras within Sagittarius; the results may be mixed. If Sun is placed in Moola and Ketu is placed in Poorvashada; such Pitra Dosh may not cause serious problems. Benefic Sun may handle the energy of Moola nakshatra very well; unless malefic Jupiter, Mars or Ketu is placed with it in the same nakshatra. Since Ketu is placed in Poorvashada, the native may not face serious problems. If Sun is placed in Moola and Ketu is placed in Uttarashada; the problems may be significant but manageable. When Sun is placed in Poorvashada and Ketu is placed in Moola, the problems may become serious. If Sun is placed in Poorvashada and Ketu is placed in Uttarashada, the problems may become significant. When Sun is placed in Uttarashada and Ketu is placed in Moola; the problems may become serious. Finally, if Sun is placed in Uttarashada and Ketu is placed in Poorvashada, the problems may be significant but manageable.
Pitra Dosh formed by two planets in a sign may have 9 probable arrangements by virtue of placements of such planets in various nakshatras. We have discussed all of these 9 combinations. When it comes to navamsha placements, Pitra Dosh formed by two planets in a sign may have 81 probable combinations by virtue of placements of such planets in various navamshas. Let’s discuss some of them.
Moola nakshatra rules navamshas ranging from Aries to Cancer. Poorvashada rules navamshas ranging from Leo to Scorpio and Uttarashada rules Sagittarius navamsha; within the sign of Sagittarius. When Sun is placed in Leo navamsha and Ketu is placed in Virgo navamsha; this may be the least troublesome type of Pitra Dosh formed by these two planets in Sagittarius. Sun is strong in Leo and Ketu is debilitated in Virgo. Sun can handle Poorvashada somewhat better than Ketu. Hence this combination may form the least strong Pitra Dosh in Sagittarius.
Accordingly, the native may not face serious problems related to his profession as well as those related to other spheres attacked by such Pitra Dosh; unless the overall horoscope is malefic. When Sun is placed in Leo navamsha and Ketu is placed in Libra navamsha, such Pitra Dosh may again cause manageable problems. With Sun in Leo and Ketu in Leo or Scorpio; the problems may become significant.
When Sun is placed in Libra and Ketu is placed in Aries navamsha; such Pitra Dosh may cause serious problems. When Sun is placed in Cancer and Ketu is placed in Aries navamsha; such Pitra Dosh may cause very serious problems. Likewise, such Pitra Dosh may cause serious or very serious problems when Ketu is placed in Aries navamsha and Sun is placed in Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio or Sagittarius navamsha. In each one of these cases; the native may face serious or very serious problems related to his profession as well as those related to the other spheres affected by such Pitra Dosh.
