The second house of horoscope represents family, face, speech, money, wealth, memories, family traditions, family history, foods, eating and drinking habits; and many other things.
When it comes to money, there are four aspects related to it. These aspects are; money earned through profession, money earned or obtained through other sources, money spent and money saved. The tenth house represents the money as well as other things like reputation, success and recognition earned through profession. The eleventh house deals with money which may be earned through your primary profession and which may also be earned or obtained through other sources. Such sources include gifts, lotteries, bonuses, bets, stock markets, windfall gains and many other types of sources. The tenth house may not bless you with money through these sources since it deals directly with your profession only. On the other hand, the eleventh house deals with the money aspect of your profession as well as with all other types of financial gains in general.
Through the tenth and eleventh house, money is earned. Now it comes to spend this money. The twelfth house primarily deals with the spending part. Twelfth house is associated with losses. Even when you spend money of your own will; you lose it. If the twelfth house and its lord are well managed, you may be able to spend money wisely. On the other hand, if the twelfth house is troublesome; you may keep spending money or you may have to spend or lose it through other means. Apart from the twelfth house, the eighth house also indicates loss of money. However in most cases; this is not the money that you may willingly spend. It is the money that you may have to spend or the money you may lose through various channels.
For example, you may have to spend a lot of money due to accidents, diseases, unfortunate events and other such reasons; when the eighth house is troublesome in specific ways, in your horoscope. Compared to this, when the twelfth house is troublesome; you may lose money through expenditures, gambling, betting, vices, luxuries, comforts and other such things.
In the first part you earn money and in the second part you spend or lose parts of it. The money which you are able to save after earning and spending or losing; is represented by the second house. Hence the second house represents your saved money, wealth, assets like gold and other precious metals or gemstones; and many other types of savings. However, the second house doesn’t represent properties and vehicles which are represented by the fourth house. Hence if the twelfth house is not troublesome and the second house is strong and healthy in a horoscope; the native may spend and save money wisely.
Let’s look at another characteristic of the second house. When it comes to traditions, the second house represents the traditions practiced or followed by your family line. Compared to this, the ninth house deals with the traditions practiced by the religion you follow. It means the traditions exhibited by the ninth house may include many traditions exhibited by the second house. This is because your family may follow a number of traditions which they have acquired from their religion. However, there may be some traditions which may exclusively belong to your family. These traditions in specific are represented by the second house. Taking an example, if it is a tradition in a family since two or three generations that one male member must join defence services; such tradition is represented by the second house. The ninth house or the religion may not exhibit such traditions in general.
When it comes to family, the second house represents your living family members. Compared to this, the ninth house represents the family members who have died. An exception to this rule is your father who is represented by the ninth house, even when he is alive. Hence the ninth house deals with ancestors, with the exception of father. It should be noted that according to Vedic beliefs, even the younger members of your family become your ancestors if they die before you. It means if your younger brother or even your son dies before you, he becomes your ancestor. To be precise, he becomes your Pitra. Pitras represent those members of your family who don’t have physical bodies. Looking at it from another angle, Pitras represent those members of your family; who have become the past and they are no longer your present family.
Since each one of your family members whether elder or younger; loses the physical body and becomes past when he dies; he becomes your Pitra. Hence the ninth house represents your Pitras and the second house represents the living members of your family. It means as long as a family member is alive; his wellbeing is indicated through the second house or through the specific houses allotted to specific family members. Looking at these houses, the fourth house represents mother, the ninth house represents father, the third house represents siblings, the seventh house represents husband or wife and the fifth house represents children. However, if and when any one of these family members dies; he or she is represented through the ninth house.
Drawing another comparison, the houses like the third, fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth house represent the individual wellbeing and affairs of specific family members as long as they are alive. For example, the fourth house represents the wellbeing and affairs of mother as long as she is alive. Compared to this, the second house represents the collective wellbeing as well as the collective affairs of the living family. It means if something bad is going to happen to your mother, it may reflect through the fourth house. Likewise, if something bad is going to happen to your wife, it may reflect through the seventh house. However, if something bad is going to happen to your family or within your family; it may reflect through the second house. It means that the problems or disasters which may affect the entire family are likely to reflect through the second house. Likewise, the problems happening within the family like disputes and separations may also reflect through the second house.
From this discussion, it can be seen that the second house of horoscope is closely related to the ninth house. Whereas the ninth house represents your family of the past; the second house represents your family in the present. Since your present is built on your past; the second house is built on the ninth house. This is why most of the significances of the second house connect to the ninth house. For example; your face, your eyes, your family traditions and your speech patterns are directly influenced by your ancestors since most of these characteristics are transferred through genetics. Likewise, a part of the money, wealth or business capital you may have; may have come from your ancestors.
Even when it comes to eating and drinking habits, they are likely to be influenced by your ancestors. It means if you are a non-vegetarian; you may have got this trait through your family tradition. Likewise, a vegetarian family lineage tends to make you vegetarian. Looking at the memories, a considerable part of them belongs to your family members or your experiences with them. Hence the second house is closely related to the ninth house; and the former draws its power from the latter.
It should now be easy to understand that Pitra Dosh formed in the second house carries special significance. This is because when Pitra Dosh is formed in the second house, your past as well as your present family is under attack. This is especially true when the lord of the ninth house is afflicted in the second house; and Pitra Dosh is formed.
When that happens, it means that the native having such Pitra Dosh is supposed to balance out the negative karmas done by his ancestors. If he fails to do so, the harmony or wellbeing of the entire present family may be under threat. Hence this type of Pitra Dosh holds the potential to wipe out entire families, so that the present as well as the future may be destroyed; due to the past. It means a specific branch of a family line may reach a dead end; with no family member left to reproduce. This may happen when Pitra Dosh formed in the second house is very strong and it is supported by other malefic planets.
Taking an example, suppose a native has a son and a daughter. Suppose his mother and father are also alive and this native has a younger brother who is unmarried. Let’s assume this native has troublesome Pitra Dosh in the second house of his horoscope, supported by a number of malefic planets. Due to such malefic influences, all family members may die in an accident. Hence this branch of the family line which starts from native’s father and which extends up to his children may be destroyed. There is no family member left to take this family branch forward. Hence the present as well as the future has been destroyed because of negative energy from the past. Such negative energy may reflect in the form of Pitra Dosh formed in the second house.
Looking at one such example, suppose a combination of Sun, malefic Moon, malefic Ketu, malefic Venus and retrograde Saturn is placed in the second house of a horoscope in Capricorn. Malefic Rahu is placed in the eighth house in Cancer in Ashlesha nakshatra, Mercury is placed in the third house in Aquarius and a malefic combination of Mars and Jupiter is placed in the twelfth house in Scorpio. Sun being the lord of the ninth house is afflicted by malefic Moon, Ketu and Venus.
Hence strong Pitra Dosh is formed in the second house of this horoscope since Sun being the general as well as specific signifier of ancestors is afflicted by three malefic planets. The rest of the horoscope is also malefic. As a result, the native may die along with his entire family, in an accident. Depending on the finer factors and running times; the native may or may not be married at the time of such event. If the native is unmarried; he along with his father, mother and brother may die. If the native is married and he has children; the wife and the children may also die along with the rest of the family.
Let’s get back to regular types of Pitra Dosh formed in the second house of horoscope, which may not create problems of this quantum. Let’s consider various formations of Pitra Dosh in the second house and see what may happen. As we know, there are three categories of Pitra Dosh on the basis of its formation. The first one is formed due to affliction to Sun, the second one is formed due to affliction to the ninth house and the third one is formed due to affliction to the lord of the ninth house. Let’s discuss Pitra Dosh formed in the second house due to affliction to Sun.
Suppose a combination of benefic Sun and malefic Saturn forms Pitra Dosh in the second house of a horoscope in Pisces. Both Sun and Saturn may do well in Pisces though none of them is strong in this sign. Sun represents the seventh house in this horoscope. Hence Sun represents courage, confidence, immunity, creativity, father, marriage, husband, wife, partnerships and the ability to produce children in case of male natives; among other things.
Through its general as well as specific significances, Saturn represents patience, discipline, hard work, health, lifespan, profession, personality, foreign lands, hospitals, ashrams, refugee camps, prisons, fantasies, perversions, spiritual growth, paranormal, supernatural, the occult, mysteries, illusions, losses, delays, addictions, vices, confusions, secret missions, investigations and many other things.
In general, Saturn works as partly benefic and partly malefic planet for Aquarius ascendant. The percentages of benefic and malefic parts of Saturn may increase or decrease; depending on its placements in various houses, signs, nakshatras and navamshas; as well as on the influences of benefic and malefic planets on Saturn; and on the overall theme of the horoscope. In the present case, Saturn may be 40 to 70% malefic; depending on relevant factors.
Hence such Pitra Dosh may trouble the native with problems related to his marriage, children, wife, father, money, wealth, family, speech, memory, immunity, health, confidence and many other things. Let’s try to look into some of these spheres and find out how the net results of such Pitra Dosh may change due to nakshatras, navamshas, influences of other benefic and malefic planets, overall theme of horoscope and running times. Since Saturn represents the first house which stands for lifespan; such Pitra Dosh on its own may not pose threat to native’s life.
Looking at the sphere of marriage, such Pitra Dosh may cause delay in the marriage of the native. Even if Venus is well placed in this horoscope in case of a male native; the native may face various types of problems after his marriage is conducted. Venus placed in the fourth house in Taurus in Rohini nakshatra may try to save the marriage of this native whereas Pitra Dosh formed in the second house may try to destroy his marriage. The final result depends on the overall horoscope as well as on the running times. Such Pitra Dosh may cause maximum damage during the planetary period of Saturn, since Saturn forms Pitra Dosh in the horoscope. Planetary periods repeat in a cycle of 120 years and they are decided by the placements of Moon in various nakshatras, in the birth chart of the native in question.
Taking an example, suppose malefic Moon is placed in the third house of this horoscope in Aries in Ashwini nakshatra. It means the native is born under the planetary period of Ketu. The planetary period of Ketu lasts for 7 years. Once the planetary period of Ketu begins, it takes about 84 years for the planetary period of Saturn to arrive. It means that in this case, the native may not witness the planetary period of Saturn till 80 years of his age. As a result, such Pitra Dosh may not cause maximum amount of damage to marriage as well as to the other spheres. Hence the marriage of this native may not face serious problems due to such Pitra Dosh.
On the other hand, if malefic Moon is placed in the first house of this horoscope in the fourth part of Shatabhisha nakshatra; the problem may intensify. The native in this case is born under Rahu Mahadasha (planetary period). Rahu Mahadasha lasts for 18 years. Since Moon is placed in the fourth part of Shatabhisha nakshatra; only about one fourth of this period may be left. Hence the native may face about 4 years of Rahu period followed by 16 years of Jupiter period. When the native turns 20, the planetary period of Saturn begins; as Saturn Mahadasha follows Jupiter Mahadasha. Saturn Mahadasha runs for 19 years. It means the native may be under the impact of Saturn period during his age of 20 to 39 years.
These are prime years of life in general and they are especially important for marriage. In this case, such Pitra Dosh may hit all the spheres of this native’s life under its influence; with maximum force. Whichever spheres are protected by benefic planets, they may suffer minimum damage. Whichever spheres are neither protected nor troubled; they may suffer significant damage. The spheres which are troubled by other malefic planets also; may witness maximum damage.
Looking at marriage, the marriage of this native may get delayed in this case; despite the placement of benefic Venus in the fourth house. Hence the native may not get married before the age of 30, unless other benefic planets support the event of marriage. It should be noted that the event of marriage means the act of getting married and it is different from the happiness derived from marriage as well as from the longevity of marriage. Hence you may get married in time if your horoscope supports the event of marriage. However, you may face problems as well as one, two or three broken marriages; if the same horoscope indicates troubles related to the longevity of marriage.
Since the horoscope supports the event of marriage; you may get married. The horoscope opposes the longevity of marriage and you may get divorced or widowed. You may get married again since the horoscope supports the event of marriage. You may get divorced or widowed again and this trend may continue for two, three, four, five or even more marriages; depending on your overall horoscope as well as on the running times. It means the natives who keep getting married and divorced may have strong benefic energies which get them married. At the same time; they may also have strong malefic energies which don’t allow them to stay married. Such horoscopes may feature clashes between opposite types of energies which have comparable strengths. Hence both types of energies may keep doing their jobs until one of them wins; depending on the overall horoscopes.
Back to the present example, the marriage of this native may get delayed beyond 30 years of his age; despite the presence of benefic Venus in the fourth house in Taurus in Rohini nakshatra; unless there are strong factors promoting the event of marriage. Taking an example, if a benefic combination of Mars and Jupiter is placed in the seventh house of this horoscope in Leo; the native may get married before his age of 30 years; even during the planetary period of Saturn. However in such case, Pitra Dosh may try its best to dissolve the marriage of this native.
As a result, the native may face differences with his wife, the two of them may get separated and they may even get divorced. Due to the benefic influence of Venus, Mars and Jupiter; the native may get married again. This time also, he may or may not be able to sustain his marriage; depending on his overall horoscope. The native is likely to settle in his second or third marriage; depending on his overall horoscope. Similar explanation may be used in case of female natives; by replacing Venus with Jupiter.
