Article 107

In general, the lords of the sixth, eighth and twelfth house have significant tendencies to produce negative results. However, it should not be taken as a fixed rule as any rule can change in a horoscope; depending on its overall theme. This means that under specific conditions, even the lords of these three houses may work as functional positive planets in a horoscope. The same theory also gives us the result that under specific conditions; the lords of the positive houses may also behave as functional negative planets in a horoscope. It means that even the lord of the ascendant, fourth house, fifth house, ninth house or tenth house may behave as a functional negative planet in a horoscope; under specific conditions.

The sum total of these specific conditions is called the overall theme of a horoscope and this theme may be different in different cases. It means these specific conditions are not fixed ones and each horoscope has the potential to make its own set of specific conditions. This set of specific conditions is what I call the overall theme of horoscope. Since it has the potential to turn supposedly positive planets into negative planets and negative planets into positive planets; it becomes the most important factor in a horoscope. This is why I assign so much importance to the overall theme of a horoscope. In order to understand this topic in proper manner; let’s first try to understand some basic, interesting and simple but confusing facts about Vedic astrology.

The elementary rules of Vedic astrology seem simple. Let’s look at some of these rules. Exalted planets are good and debilitated planets are bad. The lords of the triangular houses as well as the lords of the central houses except the seventh house are positive in a horoscope. The lords of the sixth, eighth and twelfth house are negative in a horoscope. Planets among navagraha are strong in some signs whereas they are weak in some other signs. Let’s stick to these basic rules only; for the time being.

If we go by these rules, the study of Vedic astrology should be simple. This is because we know which planet is good and which planet is bad. We also know which house deals with what affairs. Hence it should be easy to calculate and predict the future events from a horoscope; according to these elementary rules. Though it all seems to hold good in theory; the practice tells otherwise. Majority of astrologers may not be able to achieve meaningful and relevant results with the help of these rules. In fact, these rules may often not be sufficient to produce even satisfactory results.

It means the elementary rules are not good enough and there are more rules which may not have been listed anywhere. Vedic astrology is a divine science and it deals with the deepest mysteries of existence. Hence it is only fair that this divine science itself should be surrounded by mysteries. I have this strong faith that you can choose to embrace Vedic astrology but you can’t make it embrace you. It means any divine science may come to you; only when the higher entities guarding it find you worthy of having it. When that happens; the hidden rules start explaining themselves to you. Until that happens; you should keep engaging in sincere efforts to embrace Vedic astrology. It is important to note that you may not be able to directly control when this faith may embrace you.

However, all the dedicated and sincere efforts made by you in embracing this faith still mean a lot. It is because of these efforts only that this faith may one day choose to embrace you. Getting back to the main topic, Vedic astrology is covered in mysteries and there are no simple rules. In fact, there are no fixed rules at all; as any rule may change in a horoscope; depending on its overall theme. Therefore, the study of Vedic astrology should not be considered as learning a rulebook. It should instead be considered as learning a language. Suppose this language is English and you learn it. The fact that you have learnt English doesn’t entitle you to all the knowledge which has been stored in this language across the globe. It means that though you may know English well; you may not know everything written in English. In this sense, you are limited.

However, the fact that you know English well; enables you to read and understand almost anything written in this language. It means a language in itself doesn’t bless you with knowledge but it blesses you with the ability to possess knowledge by using such language as a tool. The same happens in case of Vedic astrology. It should be learnt as a language and not as a rulebook. There are about billion multiplied by billion probable combinations in a horoscope. How many of them can be learnt and remembered? It doesn’t look like a wise approach and it isn’t. Hence one should learn the language and then try to read whatever rules every horoscope may be dictating; with the help of this language. As already mentioned, the set of rules dictated by a horoscope is called its overall theme.

When it comes to horoscopes and Yogas; some of them are simple and they seem to go by rules. However, some of them are difficult and they may defy many rules. Vipreet Rajyoga is one such Yoga which may be formed; only by defying the elementary rules and not otherwise. It means the placement of the lord of the sixth house in the eighth or twelfth house may not be capable of forming Harsha Yoga in a horoscope; unless the overall theme of the horoscope makes special rules. Hence when we are looking at a Yoga like Vipreet Rajyoga; it is not a simple one and it may get very complicated to detect in a horoscope. A horoscope which truly features Vipreet Rajyoga may defy a number of prevalent rules and it may dictate new ones; which may be hard to understand and digest at times.

There are Yogas in Vedic astrology, which are relatively easy to detect. For instance, if positive Jupiter is placed in the first, fourth, seventh or tenth house in Cancer, Sagittarius or Pisces; Hamsa Yoga is formed in the horoscope. Even this Yoga is not easy to determine, it is relatively easy. Though you may ascertain the formation of Hamsa Yoga in a horoscope; you may not be able to calculate the type and quantum of benefits offered by it; without considering the overall theme of the horoscope featuring this Yoga. The same happens in case of most other good and bad Yogas. It means that their formation may be determined without considering the overall theme of horoscope. However, we need to consider the overall theme when it comes to calculate the positive or negative results offered by them.

Vipreet Rajyoga is different than these Yogas. When it comes to Vipreet Rajyoga; its mere formation is dependent on the overall theme of the horoscope and it simply may not form without the approval from the overall theme. Most other Yogas may form irrespective of the overall theme of horoscope; though they may not produce significant results if the overall theme is not favorable. However, Vipreet Rajyoga may not even form in a horoscope; if the overall theme of such horoscope is not favorable for its formation. Remember, we discussed in case of most of the positive Yogas that the primary condition for their formation is that the planets involved in their formation should be positive in such horoscope. However, the primary condition for Vipreet Rajyoga to form in a horoscope is different. Let’s look at this condition.

The condition of placement of lords of certain specific houses in certain specific houses in a horoscope should be considered as an eligibility criterion for the formation of Vipreet Rajyoga. Once this criterion is met; we proceed to the primary condition for its formation. The primary condition for the formation of Vipreet Rajyoga is that the overall theme of the horoscope should be supportive for it. Unless this condition is met in a horoscope after the eligibility criterion is met; Vipreet Rajyoga may not form in such horoscope. Let’s try to understand why the primary condition is different in case of Vipreet Rajyoga; compared to most other positive Yogas.

First of all, let’s look into the terms positive lords and negative lords in the context of Vedic astrology. The lords of relatively easy to handle houses like the first, fifth and ninth house are considered positive, in general. On the other hand, the lords of difficult to handle houses like the sixth, eighth or twelfth house are considered negative, in general. In the deepest sense, they may not be positive or negative; but they may be easy or difficult. Since most people may not be able to deal with difficult planets as their horoscopes may not be strong enough to handle them; the term negative is used. Hence negative in this context may only indicate a planet which is difficult or very difficult to handle.

However, if a horoscope is strong enough to handle a specific type of difficult energy, say that of the sixth house; this energy may turn positive for this person. It means the lord of the sixth house as well as the sixth house itself may become positive for this person. The same holds for the eighth and twelfth house as well as for their respective lords. It means if a horoscope is capable of channelizing their energies; they may turn positive for such people. On the other hand, if a horoscope is not strong enough to handle the energy of a relatively easy to handle house, say the first house, such energy may turn negative for such person. Let’s take some real life examples to understand this concept.

Though a number of people represent middle zones; some people represent extreme zones. It means these people are either very good achievers in various spheres of life; or they don’t achieve much at all. Taking one such sphere, some people are among the richest people on earth and they continue to be so. On the other hand, some people lead the lives of baggers and they also continue to do so. If the same elementary rule of positive and negative planet applies to them; why don’t they get out of these extremes? The richest people should also have equal number of negative planets. Then why don’t they suffer that much? Likewise, the poorest people should also have equal number of positive planets. Then why don’t they witness gains?

The answer to these questions lies in the very same fact that we are discussing. A number of such richest people have horoscopes which are strong enough to channelize the energies of difficult to handle houses. Hence these houses as well as their lords turn positive for them. This is why they keep growing, even during the planetary periods of supposedly negative planets. Taking an example, Mr. Barack Obama’s horoscope features debilitated Jupiter in the first house of his horoscope in Capricorn along with Saturn. Jupiter is debilitated, it represents the twelfth house and it is placed in the ascendant. Hence it should be negative and it should create a number of problems for him. On the contrary, Mr. Barack Obama got elected as the President of United States during the planetary period of Jupiter; not only once but twice. In fact, most of his political journey so far has taken place during the main period of Jupiter which lasts for 16 years. He has witnessed some of the best achievements of his life during this period.

Some astrologers make guesses that the presence of positive Saturn in the same house forms Neechbhang Rajyoga in the horoscope. However, even Neechbhang Rajyoga may not be formed when one of the planets engaged in its formation is negative. So what is the secret then? Similar trends may be seen in case of many other people living on such positive extremes. On the other hand, the horoscopes of some of the poorest or the most troubled people bring bad results; even during the planetary periods of supposedly positive planets, like that of the lord of the ninth house. Here again, why is this anomaly happening?

The answer to all these questions lies with the overall theme of horoscope. The people living on positive extremes have horoscopes which are strong enough to channelize some or most of the difficult energies also. The people living on negative extremes have horoscopes which are not capable of handling, even the energies of some easy to handle houses. In the first case, such people may be able to draw benefits, even from the lords of the sixth, eighth or twelfth house. On the contrary, the people of the second type may be troubled, even by the lords of the first, fifth or ninth house.

It means the people who almost never suffer from major health issues; may have horoscopes which are capable of channelizing the energy of the sixth house. Since the sixth house is the primary reason for diseases; these people may not suffer from them. On the other hand, the people who have horoscopes which may not be capable of handling the energy of the sixth house as well as that of the first house; may suffer from a number of serious health issues throughout their lives; unless their horoscopes feature some relief in some other sections. Similar trends may be observed in case of other houses as well as their lords.

Therefore, the energy of any house in a horoscope may not be positive or negative; it may be easy or difficult. If you can channelize the energy of a house, it may become positive for you. However, if you are not able to channelize such energy; it may become negative for you. In general, the energies of the houses which are considered positive; are relatively easy to handle. Hence they are tagged as positive houses and their respective lords are tagged as positive planets. Likewise, the energies of the houses which are considered negative; are relatively difficult or very difficult to handle. Hence they are tagged as negative houses. But these are general trends and they don’t have to be true in all cases. There are a number of cases where horoscopes make their own rules and such horoscopes defy these general trends.

Vipreet Rajyoga is formed in such cases only. It means a horoscope must defy and change some general trends in order to feature Vipreet Rajyoga in it. When the lord of a difficult to handle house is placed in another difficult to handle house; it may become too much to handle for many people. However, if the overall horoscope is strong enough to handle a specific type of difficult energy, say that of the sixth house; this house and its lord may turn positive in such horoscope. Hence the person may benefit from such energy.

It should be noted that a horoscope may be strong enough to handle the energy of a specific house among these three houses. However, it may not be capable of channelizing the energies of the other two houses. In such case, only one of these three houses may turn positive and the other two houses may not. Likewise, if a horoscope is capable of channelizing the energies of two out of these three houses; such energies may turn positive for the person. In case a horoscope is able to channelize the energies of all of these three houses; all these energies may turn positive for the person. The third type of horoscopes are the rarest ones; and they may be witnessed in case of highly evolved spiritual souls only. Such souls are capable of handling the energy of each house. Hence they may not be troubled by any energy.

After understanding all this, let’s now look at the relevant definition of Vipreet Rajyoga. If a horoscope is strong enough to handle the energy of the sixth house and the lord of the sixth house is placed in the eighth or twelfth house; Harsha Yoga may be formed in such horoscope. If a horoscope is strong enough to handle the energy of the eighth house and its lord is placed in the sixth or twelfth house, Sarala Yoga may be formed in such horoscope. Similarly, if a horoscope is strong enough to handle the energy of the twelfth house and its lord is placed in the sixth or eighth house; Vimala Yoga may be formed in the horoscope.

It is the time to validate this definition with one of the basic rules in Vedic astrology. Positive planets form good Yogas and negative planets form bad Yogas. In this case also, the lord of the sixth, eighth or twelfth house may form Vipreet Rajyoga in a horoscope; only when it turns positive and not otherwise. Hence Vipreet Rajyoga may seem to be formed by negative planets; it is formed by positive planets in reality. Since the overall theme of a horoscope alone may turn a negative planet into a positive planet; such theme becomes the primary condition for the formation of Vipreet Rajyoga. Hence Vipreet Rajyoga may be formed in those horoscopes only; where the eligibility criterion of placement of lords of specific houses in specific houses is met; and the overall themes of such horoscopes are strong enough to handle such planetary lords. Let’s now look at some other facts associated with Vipreet Rajyoga.

Once the formation of Vipreet Rajyoga is confirmed in a horoscope, the next thing to check is its strength. Contrary to most other Yogas; the strength of Vipreet Rajyoga is not measured only by the strength of the planet forming this Yoga in a horoscope. The strength of this Yoga is measured by drawing a relative comparison between the strength of the planet involved in the formation of Vipreet Rajyoga; and the overall strength of the horoscope. It means if the planet forming Vipreet Rajyoga is strong in a horoscope, the overall horoscope should be even stronger. Likewise, if the planet forming Vipreet Rajyoga has average strength only; a relative less strong horoscope may be capable of handling it. In the second case, the overall results produced by Vipreet Rajyoga may decrease in quantum; since the planet forming this Yoga as well as the overall horoscope is not that strong.

However, if such planet is strong but the overall horoscope is not capable of handling such strong and difficult planet; such planet may end up causing problems instead of producing benefits. For this reason; Vipreet Rajyoga is among the most difficult to detect Yogas featured in Vedic astrology. The formation and working of this Yoga hangs in fine balance. As long as the overall horoscope is strong enough to handle the planet forming Vipreet Rajyoga; this Yoga may produce positive results. The moment a horoscope becomes incapable of controlling such planet; this Yoga may start causing problems. It means Vipreet Rajyoga may cause problems; even when it is actually formed in a horoscope. This may happen in cases where the difference between the strength of the planet forming Vipreet Rajyoga and that of the overall horoscope is not much.

Lets’ consider an example to understand this concept in a better manner. Suppose a combination of exalted Sun and Mercury is placed in the sixth house in Aries. It means Scorpio rises in the ascendant and Mercury rules the eighth house. Jupiter is placed in the fifth house in Pisces and Mars is placed in the fourth house in Aquarius. Saturn is placed in the eighth house in Gemini and Moon is placed in the ninth house in Cancer. In this case, the overall theme of this horoscope may be strong enough to handle the energy of Mercury placed in the sixth house. Hence Vipreet Rajyoga may be formed in this horoscope. Looking at some facts; the eighth house primarily deals with mysteries, death, sudden events and emergencies.

These traits make the eighth house a difficult to handle house. The events triggered by the eighth house or its lord may often be quick and sudden. At the same time, the eighth house may produce events which are mysterious and they not be understood through standard intellectual approach. It means such events may not be dealt with through intellect only and they may need much more than that. For this reason, the eighth house also deals with the field of the paranormal and the occult. Both these fields deal in phenomena which are beyond the reach of intellect. The energy of the eighth house may be channelized only through traits like instincts, intelligence, courage, confidence, intuition, insight, higher perception, spiritual growth and wisdom.

Sun, Moon, Mars and Jupiter exhibit these traits as their general significances. When it comes to deal with mysteries; patience and perseverance offered by Saturn and the energy offered by Mars is useful. Looking at the horoscope, Jupiter is placed in Pisces in the fifth house, laying the foundation stone for making the overall theme of this horoscope positive. The placement of Jupiter may render intelligence, intuition, spiritual growth and wisdom. Exalted Sun is placed in the sixth house; adding to the strength of this horoscope. Exalted Sun may provide intelligence, initiative, courage and confidence to support the overall theme of this horoscope. Since Sun is much stronger than Mercury in Aries; Sun dominates this combination. Moon in the ninth house in Cancer may add intuition and higher perception to the horoscope. Saturn in the eighth house may provide the ability and perseverance to deal with mysteries. Mars in the fourth house in Aquarius may provide higher perception and the energy required to solve mysteries.

Adding these results; these planets present a common platform through which, the energy of the eighth house and its lord may be handled. Hence this horoscope may feature Vipreet Rajyoga. To be precise, it may feature Sarala Yoga. Mercury also rules the eleventh house in this horoscope. The eleventh house deals with profits and gains among other things. Sun rules the tenth house which primarily deals with profession. It means such Vipreet Rajyoga may bless the person through his field of profession and such field may deal in mysteries, emergencies, sudden events and other traits of the eighth house. As a result, the person benefitting from such Vipreet Rajyoga may become a doctor, police officer, astrologer, lawyer, investigative officer, spiritual guru or other likewise professional; depending on his overall horoscope.

Let’s add some variables to this horoscope and see what may happen. Suppose exalted Rahu is placed in the seventh house of this horoscope in Taurus and exalted Ketu is placed in the first house in Scorpio. In this case, exalted Rahu may increase the mystery element as well as indulgence in materialistic pursuits; especially the indulgence in women. This is because Rahu is a planet of indulgence along with mysteries; and the seventh house is a lot about indulgence. Exalted Ketu in the first house may further increase sudden events, the mystery, the paranormal and the occult element; though it may not provide support in solving these mysteries.

Combining these results; the overall horoscope may witness a shift towards mysteries and indulgence. It means the mystery and indulgence aspect may become pronounced in this horoscope. Indulgence may not be the primary concern in this case; but mystery is. As this happens, the traits of the eighth house like mysteries, the occult, paranormal and sudden events may increase a lot in the horoscope. Hence it may become relatively difficult for planets like Jupiter, Sun, Saturn and Mars to handle them. When that happens, the energy of Mercury placed in the sixth house may become difficult or too much to handle. As a result, weak or no Vipreet Rajyoga may be formed in the sixth house of this horoscope.

Looking at the placement of Rahu and Ketu from the opposite angle, suppose debilitated Rahu is placed in the first house in Scorpio and debilitated Ketu is placed in the seventh house in Taurus. Since both Rahu and Ketu are weak; they may not promote traits like indulgence, mystery, paranormal and the occult to significant extents. Hence Mercury may not gain additional strength and Vipreet Rajyoga may hold good. Similarly, the formation as well as the strength of such Vipreet Rajyoga may change with change in finer factors in the horoscope. More these changes are favorable for Jupiter, Sun, Moon, Saturn and Mars; better may be the results produced by Vipreet Rajyoga formed by Mercury in the sixth house. On the other hand, more these changes are favorable for Mercury; weaker may be the results produced by such Vipreet Rajyoga. Taking an example, the placement of Jupiter in Pisces in Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra or the placement of exalted Sun in Aries in Ashwini nakshatra can make the overall horoscope more capable of handling such Vipreet Rajyoga.

It may be seen that Vipreet Rajyoga is a different and special type of Yoga and it is nothing like the regular Yogas in Vedic astrology. Its formation as well as its strength primarily depends on the overall theme of horoscope. Hence the overall theme of horoscope holds the key to Vipreet Rajyoga. An example for Sarala Yoga has been considered. The formation and working of Harsha Yoga and Vimala Yoga may also be explained on the same basis. It means if the lord of the sixth house is placed in the eighth house or twelfth house; the overall theme of the horoscope should be checked. If the overall theme is capable of handling the traits of the sixth house; Harsha Yoga may be formed in the horoscope. Likewise, if the lord of the twelfth house is placed in the sixth or eighth house and the overall horoscope is capable of dealing with its traits; Vimala Yoga may be formed in the horoscope.

After this, let’s look at the exceptions added in case of Vipreet Rajyoga. When the lord of the sixth house is placed in the sixth house itself; the traits of this house may become even stronger. Hence the energy of this house may become even more difficult to handle. This is why the placement of the lord of the sixth house in the sixth house itself has been taken as an exception. Likewise, the placement of the lord of the eighth house in the eighth house and that of the lord of the twelfth house in the twelfth house may add more strength to the traits of these houses. It means they may become even more difficult to handle. Hence such placements have also been added as exceptions.

Vipreet Rajyoga indicates gains through risky and adverse looking situations. Hence the overall horoscope should be strong enough to benefit through such adverse and risky circumstances. For example, if a big social and political revolution is taking place in a geographical region, the people having Vipreet Rajyogas in their horoscopes may benefit through these conditions. Such people may emerge as leaders and they may lead such revolution. Depending on the types of Vipreet Rajyoga as well as depending on their overall horoscopes; different people may benefit differently from such revolution. It means a person may become the head of state through such revolution, another person may become a minister and yet another person may receive benefits which are even less in quantum.

Hence the presence of any type of Vipreet Rajyoga in a horoscope may provide sudden, profitable and at the same time risky opportunities to the person. Though most people may not wish to take chances with such opportunities due to the high risk element involved; such people may grab these opportunities. Since their overall horoscopes may be capable enough to handle such risks, they may benefit through such risky but rewarding opportunities.

For example, the main leader of a revolutionary group may get killed and the person with such Vipreet Rajyoga may be chosen as the new leader. Once he takes charge, he may see the revolution through and he may achieve the final objective. This situation is also risky and most people may refuse to accept such post of the revolutionary leader since it comes with high risk of getting captured or killed. Harsha Yoga may enable this person to take such risk. The overall strong horoscope may help him face the challenges as the new leader; and complete the mission.

Considering one more situation, suppose the situation of law and order becomes so bad in a city or state that most officers or administrators may not be willing to be posted there. Let’s assume it is a terrorism affected state and the post in question is the head of police force for such state. In this case, a person with Vipreet Rajyoga may be promoted out of turn or he may be requested on deputation from other state; to deal with such terrorism. This person may have dealt with such situations many times in his life and he may have achieved success in most cases. Hence his reputation may bring him this opportunity and he may grab it; owing to his overall horoscope. Here again, the situation is dangerous and most other officers may not be willing to take such high risk. However, this person may take such risk and he may be rewarded with a number of benefits. Likewise, Vipreet Rajyoga may bless the people under its influence with positive results through other risky, sudden, mysterious and unfortunate situations.

Let’s consider an example for Sarala Yoga. Suppose the person under the influence of this Yoga is a scientist. When his country is facing war and it may be on the losing side; the person may come up with a weapon which may change the course of war. By virtue of such weapon, his country may win this war and the person may get rewarded with a number of benefits. These two situations are also troublesome. However, the person may benefit through them; due to Sarala Yoga in his horoscope.

Let’s take an example for Vimala Yoga. Suppose the person under the influence of Vimala Yoga deals in spiritual field. He may engage in such intense forms of meditation or worship with great discipline and perseverance; which most other people may not even think of engaging in. Such person may engage in meditation or worship; continuously for 5 to 10 years. Due to his overall strong horoscope; this person may succeed and he may emerge as a spiritual guru. Such person may start a new religion or a mission; having a large number of followers. He may also guide a number of people on the path of spiritualism. Here again, both these situations are risky and most people may choose to avoid them. However, the people with Vipreet Rajyoga may accept them as challenges and they may benefit through them.
